Brisbane Lyric Opera
What personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how we look after it.
Brisbane Lyric Opera (ABN 95 683 464 066) runs this website, our ticketing and donations, BLO Academy and the BLO Academy app. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Brisbane Lyric Opera. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
When you book, we collect your name, your email address and, if you give it, your phone number. We use them to send your e-tickets, to contact you about the performance (for example, if a time changes), and to keep a record of the sale. Card payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
If you have joined a waitlist for a sold-out performance, we keep the details you gave us so we can tell you if seats become available.
When you give, we collect your name, email address, phone number (optional), the amount and frequency of your gift, any message you add, and whether you would like your gift to stay anonymous. We use them to process your gift, send your tax receipt, manage a monthly gift and thank you. Unless you choose to stay anonymous, we may list your name in programmes and on our Patrons page. Payments are handled by Stripe. Some monthly gifts that began before October 2026 are still managed by Donorbox.
If you sign up, we keep your name and email address in MailerLite so we can send you news about our season. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link.
Lessons are booked through Square Appointments, which collects your booking details on our behalf. We use them to arrange and teach your lessons.
The app keeps an account for each student and teacher. We collect your email address, your name and your practice journal: the date and length of each session, what you worked on and any notes you write. Your email address is used to send your sign-in codes. Your journal is visible to you and to BLO Academy teachers, so they can follow and guide your practice. Your reminder settings stay on your phone. The app shows no advertising and does not track you.
To stop misuse of sign-in, we keep a scrambled form of your email address and internet (IP) address with the times of recent sign-in requests. Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes and are only ever stored in scrambled form.
If you are under 18, please check with a parent or guardian before creating an account. A parent’s email address can be used instead of your own.
When you email or phone us, or send an audition submission, we keep what you send so we can reply, and for auditions, so we can consider you for work.
Our website host, Netlify, records technical details such as your IP address and browser in its server logs, which are used for security and to keep the site running. Some pages show content from other services: maps from Google, videos from YouTube, fonts from Google Fonts and images from Unsplash and Squarespace. Your browser connects to those services to load it, which gives them your IP address.
We use the Meta Pixel, a tool from Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram), to measure how well our advertising works and to help show our ads to people likely to be interested in them. It records the pages you visit on our site and actions such as starting a booking, buying tickets or making a donation, including the amount. We do not send Meta your name, email address or payment details. Meta may connect this activity to a Facebook or Instagram account under its own privacy policy. You can manage this in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings, or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.
After a booking, the site also saves a small note in your browser so that the same purchase is not counted twice.
We do not sell personal information. Apart from the Meta Pixel described above, we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. Our staff and teachers see it only where they need it for their work. We also use these service providers to run our activities:
We may also disclose personal information where the law requires it.
Several of these providers are based overseas, mainly in the United States and the European Union, and may store or process information there. For example, Netlify stores our ticket and donation records in the United States.
Your information is held by the providers above, which protect it with measures such as encryption and access controls. Within Brisbane Lyric Opera, only the people who need it can see it.
We keep information only for as long as we need it. Ticket and donation records are kept for at least five years, as tax law requires. App accounts and journals stay until the account is deleted. Newsletter details stay until you unsubscribe.
If you have a question about your privacy, or would like to make a complaint, please contact us. We will reply within 30 days.
